I agree with Billy on that....sewing gives it a clean finish but takes hours of work to make it look even and clean so many do glue it in making sure no glue shows and that the edge of the material is glued right down. Some materials are not suggested to glue down because they show fraying as an issue. fur and fleece are the most common used coverings on puppets and they make ideal glue down materials for the most part.

Thanks Daryl, your videos are most helpful. Who are you talking to off screen? It may be helpful to repeat their questions so we can connect their questions to your answers, but all in all lots of great hands on demos!

Daryl does the videos at BlogTv and it has a chat area during shows. Normally he tries to repeat the questions in chat but might miss that step sometimes. You should check out his shows when he has them. http://www.blogtv.com/People/StiqpuppetsLive I don't think he has any shows scheduled right now but normally does them during the winter season. If you sign up at the Blog TV you can subscribe to his channel and you'll be contacted when he has a show.

I like to glue the fabric onto the spot where the foam and the mouthplate meet leaving about an inch of fabric past the glue spot then take the edge of the fabric and first clean up the edges by sewing it "inside itself" (hope that makes sense) then take the remaining 3/4 inch of fabric and sew it to the liner with very tight and very small stitches. Its my own personal method I'm not sure if it's been used before but I like the clean look it gives
Re: Fleecing and mouthplate assembly Posted by Shawn on Oct 11, 2010
I assume that when you say that you are sewing "inside itself", that you mean you are turning the edge over and sewing so you don't have a raw edge. Is that correct? This is pretty common when you sew although with the mouth if it is made from fleece, I think that most just leave the raw edge since it does not fray like other fabrics.
