Re: Polyfoam vs. reticulated foam Posted by lovable puppet pals on Mar 18, 2010
I received my foam from Bestway Foam (Dr. Puppet's advise), and here's my opinion:
I LOVE IT!  lol
It looks like polyfoam (except that it is white, polyfoam in my area is green), but it is sooo much stiffer and more durable.
Thank you, Dr. Puppet!  Great suggestion.

I went to their website to look around, and bookmark the site. I had to giggle at their suggested uses in a side module:
 Commercial & Residential

    * New or replacement foam for upholstered furniture
    * Buses
    * Campers
    * Carriages
    * Carts
    * Church Pews
    * Industrial Applications
    * Puppets
    * Restaurant Seating
    * & more

(I highlighted the "Puppets" listing.) I've looked at a number of foam sellers websites, and this is the first that I've noticed that boasts of their product being good for puppets. Gotta love that!

I also got some of the foam Dr Puppet suggested and used it in Gudo, my red monster. I like it a lot, and will likely buy more!

Ok, after all the good things I've heard I bought some too. Can't wait for it to arrive.

I have been ordering from Bestway Foam for years. Great people and great service.
The foam I order is the 3/4" thick foam. It is still strong for supporting the fabric, but it feels like the puppet is more lightweight. Also, it doesn't feel as heavy or bulky.
Give it a try. You might not go back to 1".

I found a local foam supplier today! They wanted to know what density I wanted, and I did not really know, since I have always bought the same stuff (and there is nothing on there to tell the density.
Long story short - they sold me rolls they had cut off from bigger rolls - so I got foam that is about 12" wide and 50' long for $5.  This is not wide enough for some of the things I do, but plenty wide for most.  They also sell a roll that is 86" by 50' for $180 (1").  1/2" in 50' lengths is $90 and 1/4' is $45.  I am on the last few feet of a 50'  1/4" roll I bought a few years ago (and paid $25 for).

Not sure how these prices match up with others around the country, but they are less than I found from another supplier, and less than Wal Mart or Hobby Lobby.

 Hey Jay,

Which foam are you referring to as puppet foam from Bestway?

Thanks,
Pj
