What foam for carving? Posted by puppetgospel on Mar 08, 2010
Hi all, What foam (exactly?) does http://www.furrypuppet.com/ use for their work. Having a sculpture background, I would love to make some puppets caving instead of using patterns?
Can someone point me in the right direction?

It is the same thing you get in sheets for making patterned puppets only you buy it in a block.  Should be able to find some blocks of poly foam in one of your local craft or hobby stores.  If the blocks they sell are not quite big enough you can glue them together. You just need to think about where the seam ends up on your puppet when you sculpt them since it is going to show some.

Thanks!
Would it make a big difference using reticulated instead of poly?

Reticulated is too porous in my opinion. I don't think it would work well.
