Re: What tools have you made for yourself? Posted by pagestep007 on Apr 13, 2013
Hi Guys, Considering how little space the airlines give you for luggage these days, I did not have space for a normal tripod in my suitcase, so I built this one and have had time to trial it. The first shot in the video is not indicative of its effectiveness. I have used it in airports, beaches, rivers, taken it up a mountain and trekking around a lake, all to good avail. It is light, and you hardly notice it is in your backpack. It is quickly assembled and disassembled, and has done the trick quite nicely.

Thanks Snail. I did not mention anywhere, that this mache stuff makes things more rigid, so you don't have to do so many layers of paper base, like 3 in stead of 5, or, if you do 5 then it is even more solid and cool.

Great set of tips.  Love the new technique. I notice that your "glue" has color.  Do you add a bit of acrylic paint to the water glue combination or is it simply that you are using the brush that had some paint in it?  The reason I mention this is that I've added color/paint to my glue combinations before just to give me that base color/shadow in things before I paint.

no Shawn, just me being too lazy to wash my brush out... and it doesn't hurt the process as it will be painted anyway.

I would say that in this case it is an advantage. That way if you get a small nick or scratch in the "rock" it won't show up as much if at all.
