Completed Dog puppet Posted by cvzdesign on Mar 23, 2010
Here is my puppet I started and completed over the weekend.
It's a conversion from a stuffed animal to a puppet. I saw the stuffed animal at a thrift store, and it was in perfect condition.
It was also the perfect size and shape for a conversion.
Pretty much just removing the mouth seam, and adding a mouth plate, removing the bottom seam and adding a sleeve, removing the bean bags and much of the stuffing, and replacing with some lightweight foam to keep the shape.
The kids are loving it.

It is nice to see an example of a stuffed animal conversion. I think stuffed animals can be a great resource for puppet groups.

I LOVE it!! I have made many puppets out of stuffed animals. Especially when I need a specialty puppet for one show it is lots cheaper than buying an expensive vent puppet. It is especially good when you don't want to have to worry about children wanting to touch it! I teach how to do it in my class for teachers and one teacher went on to make a whole bunch for her classroom!
THANKS for sharing your creation! He is adorable!

Hi, a fantastic achievement when you manage to make such a beautiful dog. For my first attempt I took a lot of support from a dressmaker. Main problem was a good hinge for folding the foot of the dog to create. And so it looked like my dog. "Unfortunately, I do not understand how you can send a picture?
Fair sake dszusgen must also have guided me in this already at the Hohenstein Kasper - Dog by Max Jacob. Surely it does not stay in a dog to your desire to make more! Sincerely. Your Helmut Schmidt www.figurama.de

Yes, this was the first conversion I had done.
At a final cost of less than $4.00 it's great.
It would have been a lot of work to make this from scratch. A lot of trial and error for the angles and such.
I also built a pocket into the tongue, so I can use one of my fingers to move the tongue around.
I'll try and take more pictures too.
