The eggs I used for the body are a rigid foam with a colored coating on the outside, heavier than styrofoam and more like stiff microcel. They don't appear to be foam rubber.

The fabric here is just anti-pill fleece, and the belly button is easy: just make tiny stitches on the right side of the fabric and trap the ring by making the stitches on the inside go across and around the plastic ring but pull them tightly enough to make the fabric stretch around the ring a little.

I bought fabric that looks like suède. I don't believe it is real but it is grest fabric I t is very strechy to both sides and very cheap about  $3 a meter (yard) so I took everything they had (2,5 yard). I bought it on the fabric market where fabrics are much cheaper than in the fabric shops

Yes the belly button is a little ring stiched in the fabric, great idea! I want to make a belly button and had a different idea to make it. Now I have more ideas to make it.

Carol I like the pink orange puppet in your picture too !!!
Re: Third time may have been the charm... Posted by CarolF on Mar 28, 2010
Thanks!  The Large Easter Egg came from Michael's.  The pink/orange puppet is my favorite so far, in spite of the fact that he needs to be rebuilt. I found the fabric at WalMart, and like an idiot, didn't buy much of it. Of course, it was all gone when I returned the next week. I haven't seen anything like it anywhere Most of the fleece I found was purchased on sale - down here in Florida all of the "wintry" fabric is being cleared out now. I think I have plenty to  keep me busy for quite a while, though <G>.

Thanks. I just ordered fabric on-line from the fleece lady and will try and find a Michael's (I live in a creatively bankrupt area- the nearest Michael's went out of business quick)

You're right, Na. I did think the pupils weren't right. My son wanted a kind of goofy look and actually requested that, but one of the things I will definitely change with the next one is the way the pupils are aimed. (If I still had access to the puppet I don't think I could resist repositioning them!)  I also prefer the eyes and nose a little lower on the skull. The trial puppet I did right before Rotundo had them just a little too low and I over-corrected this time.

Isn't it amazing how tiny changes in the positioning of the facial features can change the puppet's personality?
Carol

Ah well, it definitely is "goofy" looking (in a good way of course!   )

But I also have lots of trouble getting pupil positioning right, I think it takes a lot of practice and patience. After a while, I tend to give up because I've spent so much time on getting it just so that I get 'blind' to how the puppet really looks.

CarolF ..thanks for sharing the video link...enjoyed watching.

I like your easter egg idea for the eyes. The puppet has
an interesting personality. I like the eyes. I am sure your
son would have enjoyed going around with his new puppet.

What is the size (height) of easter egg foam that you have used for the
head? Very good idea.

Cheers
Bhanu
