Just wanted to remind all of you that if you do not have a fire extinguisher in your house GET ONE TODAY!! My husband and I decided to have one last fire in our fireplace on Saturday and as we were eating lunch we saw the fire climb out from behind the containment box, under the mantle and up the wall. My husband grabbed the fire extinguisher and contained it while I called 911.  Then he grabbed a second fire extinguisher since it started up again and contained it a second time and then the fire dept. arrived and finished it off. Thankfully no damage to the roof of our house and we just have to replace one wall. It would have been a totally different scenario if we had been in another room for just 3 minutes and had not had a fire extinguisher. When they say that a fire doubles every minute that is NOT an exaggeration! God was looking out for us!! No puppets or props were harmed either!!! IMG_5137IMG_5136IMG_5134

I'm so Thankful you had the fire extinguisher and that no one was hurt. I have experienced a similar situation but did not have a fire extinguisher which resulted in much interior damage. I'm sad to say that I do not have any in my home at the moment but will now. Thank You so much for the wake up call it could have well been any of us.
On a lighter note this would make a good curriculum for you to use with puppets teaching fire safety. Wonder if you could make a fire extinguisher type puppet ? I'm glad everyone is OK and you sustained minimal damages.

I'm glad things did not get any worse! We are moving in June to a house with fireplaces, I will make sure that we have extinguishers in those two rooms as well as the kitchen, garage, etc.

I love the idea of a fire extinguisher puppet -- great school/library show topic.

LJ, So glad no People, puppets or props, were hurt in the fire. Most importantly, you all are all right. Makes you think about safety issues in your home. Glad you're looking on the lighter side, there are enough things that try to get us down.

Wow what an experience!   I bet your heart was racing a mile a min!  Happy to hear there was no extensive damage.

.... now tell the truth.... you had been wanting to remodel that room for years and your hubby would not let you.

Actually we had just remodeled it last year! I'm just glad that all the hard work I put into the other three walls was not damaged.  This way we get to make it a finished project I guess

thanks God that nothing happened to you.
it does happen very often that we do not think of something that is necessary - only when something bad happens we start to think "what would be IF we had..." - so good you have had that fire extinguisher.

Glad to hear that everything is ok!! (And I'm now very glad that our chimney has been blocked for many many years so we can't use the fireplace at all!)
