What an adventure and I am glad God watch out over you all !!
Do you have the smell of smoke in your furniture and books next to the fire place ? My niece had a fire in her home ( a little candle and a piece of paper) and she had to throw it away because she had smoke damaged her belongings. She has a new home now but it was a great amount of money

Praise the Lord, everyone is all right, and the damage was as little as it was.  A friend of ours had something similar happen just a few months ago.  There's no playing around when a fire starts.  Good reminder for everyone to have a fire extinguisher or two in the house.

The smoke smell is starting to go away - the contractors come today to tear out the wall and then we will have servicemaster come clean so I think we will  actually be fine as far as smoke damage - it was a pretty nice day so we opened the windows and doors immediately when the fire started and that really helped. The insurance adjuster was impressed with how quickly we had done everything right! It usually doesn't go that way. I don't think we have any smoke smell in our clothes either.

Glad all is safe  and wow quick thinking and great advice/reminder. I have two fire extinguishers in the house one in the kitchen and one on our main level...better safe than sorry.
