Crowning Glory - What's your fav choice for hair? Posted by Rosie H on Apr 02, 2010
Hey Everyone,
I've been primarily using knitting yarn for hair, what's your favourite hair medium? And how tricky is it to apply?
I found this stuff online, can anyone recommend it, it's pretty inexpensive at 3 yards x 3 ins wide for just $2.25.

That looks like silky furry fleece which can be bought by the yard. I also like flurr fleece and some of the silky eyelash fleece.  I also use a variety of yarns................. unravel a old sweater or a piece of carpet gives a curly textured yarn. Long hair fun fur is also a option.
I like crocheting from this site .............. it suggest knitting. I found crocheting to be better.

Hey, Billy, some good ideas there, right now I'm trying to find quick and interesting ways to make hair. I'm designing some odd looking puppet characters and I'm thinking to call them the "WordKeepers', not sure where I'm going with them, lol, but the first one has purple boa trim around his face, not sure if it will be just a fur type trim for his hood or actual hair. I think I will go ahead and buy some of the furry stuff I posted here. Lots of color choices.

I use inexpensive wigs. I am going to try the feather boa next. I do like the looks of that silky fur fleece though.

Hi PR,
I'm an avid Fraggle fan, it seems that was the FR creators fav hair type too, I love the feather boa colors and the way they move with the puppets.
With the purple one I bought recently, the strands take up so much scalp space and  are very sewable which is great if you want to remove it at some point. I'll post a picture tomorrow of my unfinished 'WordKeeper'.

Here he is, I think puppets are taking over my whole house, they are EVERYWHERE, even in boxes!   Um, is that puppet abuse? I hope not, I adore my puppets!

I found these awesome feather hair clips at http://shop.hobbylobby.com/ that are great as a simple head of hair on a roly sized puppet! Just remove the clip and glue or sew in place all kinds of colors too! Add matching color feather boa and voila!

How many would you have to buy to cover one head? They look like they'd make an interesting hair style too.
Here's a direct link to a black one, or you could just search 'feather clip'.

If you use marabou boas a lot this is a good deal on EBay.................... I have ordered the mixture of 25 white and 25 black. I dyed the white ones with rit dye.

Assuming the quality is good, that's a good price, a dollar per six feet.

They worked good for me................. they are the same as economy boas, maybe two or three ply. One boa covers the head.
