I'm thinking of hosting a few workshops this summer, at various summer camps, workshops are something I really want to get into so I figured that if I did some where the kids get to make simple sock puppets, then we could teach a few tricks on performance and then do a short show.
With that in mind...
1. What age group would I be targeting? maybe 8yr olds?
2. What simple and inexpensive supplies should I use?
3. How much would I charge per head?
4. How long should I have the workshop for?
5. How best should I advertise this, or should I call the organizations.

And if you have any tips and suggestions that I've probably over looked?

My suggestions since I do many of them....keep the age broad, don't limit so much....say between the ages of 7-12 year olds....I also use glue guns with this full age range....I have had great success with no major burns....just go over the safety use of the glue guns.  The supplies is up to you try to buy stuff in bulk it saves you money in the long run which you pass unto the camps as well.....hard to say on per head it depends on your cost of materials plus your time per hour....very important that you charge for your hours do NOT sell yourself short in this area workshops are a lot of work no matter how much you love doing them.  For a simple puppet about 2 hours to make (I really make sure I don't rush the process of creating) but yours may be shorter I do something different than your plans....you can also just show them how to make the puppets give the leaders a info package ahead of time on how to do puppet shows and they can decide whether they want to do it on there own or farther ask you to stay for the day (which will cost more).  Keep your stuff flexible so they can decide what they want to do and can afford....they may just want you to make a puppet and leave or maybe they will make the puppets and want you to help on how to perform with them.  I am not sure what is the best method for advertising but certainly bringing a business card and a small pamphlet around along with a follow up call to the person in charge of the overall camp to make sure they had time to look over your info helps a lot.

Thanks, Daryl, yes, that did help, especially with the flexibility aspects. Then they can choose what they can afford. I have been part of teaching and crafting at VBS at my church, it was hard work, but very rewarding and fun. I hope that by the end of April I will have a plan in place. Thanks.

I had on the party kids from 8-10 they loved it and it was very simple to make. We spend 2 hours or so for making them (and they couldn't stop)
 

Is it possible that you have workshops in a serie. They make the puppet in a serie os lessons. If I would do something in a camp I would go for that.

Gompie - I was thinking about a series after you mentioned it, it sounds like a good idea/option. So I'm adding it to my workshop types. With a series you can do small workshops to make the puppets, some camps have a lot of kids, then at the end we could do a few shows for the parents possibly.
I love the pattern you made for your workshop, thanks for the info, I will test it out with some friends of mine and see how long it takes to complete and that will help with materials and ideas for decorating them. Right now I'm trying to put together some publications for emailing to potential customers. This is very exciting for me, I love crafting with kids, it's so much fun. Shawn, I couldn't agree more. On my trip to Siberia, I took a show that used music from a source that Na, in Australia let me know abut through her videos, some of the staging came from a suggestion by Daryl in British Columbia, Canada, the main character was built from a pattern by Nice Braga in Brazil, the backdrop was created by Titere in Norway. I have so enjoyed getting all this input from all around the world.
