Puppet head shape...help! :-) Posted by lovable puppet pals on Apr 22, 2010
Hi guys,
Just wanted to ask if anyone knows...
I'm looking to create a puppet that has somewhat of an upside down triangle headshape.  Almost like the Punto pattern, but upside down.  I've actually considered using that pattern and turning it the other way, but I'm not sure how the mouth would end up.
If that doesn't work, I will have to create my own, but it's much easier to have something to start with...so...
Anybody?  Help?
Sara

Upside down Punto... hmmm. It might work but like you have already anticipated the mouth would be the catch.  Also closeing off the top of the head would kind of hard where the mouth is in the pattern.  Then again if you wanted to have the mouth up that high on your puppet it might work just fine.

Since it is close to Easter you might be able to find a large plastic egg at a hobby store.  I know they have had them in the past.  You could take that as a base to drape fabric to get a pattern perhaps.

Perheps you can try with conical (truncated) shapes.
at http://www.pulserate.com/index.php?content=product you can find a program which "Cone Layout is a program to unfold a frustum of a cone and generate a sheet cutting layout or flat pattern projection that can be rolled or bend up into a truncated cone shape. Either side of the truncated cone can be tilted. To help you visualise the cone you are editing, a rotating 3D model shows the dimensions.
It has a 21 days trial version.
Please, notice I have never tried the program, but it can be useful or triangular heads, arms...
