Looking for a video.. Posted by BrutalSlakt on Apr 25, 2010
Hi everyone!

I'm looking for a video and I don't remember where I found it. I forgot to bookmark it of course!

It's two puppeteers walking around outside, I think it's maybe at a fair. The puppeteers are hidden so you don't see them and in the front they each have a puppet that talks to the people at the fair. I think the puppets are supposed to be husband and wife and I think they had a backpack which the puppeteer hid in.

I don't remember if I found the video here (I've looked through every thread I thought could have it linked but haven't found it) or if I found it somewhere on youtube, but I'm not even sure it was on youtube. ;/

Does anyone recognize the video?

Those are very cool!  I had not seen them before.  How did you figure it out Billy?  Did someone post before about these?

I just went to you tube and used  search words like back pack puppets until I found this one.

WOW, what a great video. This has me really pumped up. I've been looking for something to do as a walk around and this really fits the bill.

Anyone have any thoughts on how the whole thing is put together? Seems like they probably use a backpack frame for overall support, but I may be wrong.

Also, picking everyone's brain, any ideas of what they could be, here in the states? Some of my first thoughts were...boy scouts walking cross country and stopping at every street fair, etc. along the way; or backpacking campers who are lost; or a couple of old prospectors searching the country for anything of value.

Any thoughts?

I think all of your ideas for characters would work well depending on what venue you where at.  It might make them more "salable" if you could somehow change their character. For example if you where at a craft fair or flea market they could be prospectors. A boy scout could work for "helping" folks at an event.  In other words you could learn where everything is and direct folks who are lost.  Kind of like a traveling info desk.

Hello

I am the director of The Flying Buttresses, the company that created Hodman and Sally.  Im very glad that you enjoyed video of our characters.  You can find out more about us by visiting www.hodmanandsally.com

Crumpetman we have spent ten years and thousands of pounds developing and refining this illusion.  Please respect that traveling the world (including the States) performing this act is how we feed our families.  We take copyright and intellectual property extremely seriously.  We are currently taking legal action against another company who decided to do a very similar show.  I urge you not to replicate our concept.

The only way illusions like this can work is if they retain their mystery.  If they become common place sights they become redundant.  Look at the ride on Ostrich, or the Gorilla carrying a man in a cage effects.  Those were great ideas when they first came out but are relegated, through countless poor imitations, to cheap tricks available to buy, off the shelf, from joke shops.  Should we as artists not strive for originality rather than trying to copy what has already been done because it seems like a way to make a fast buck?
Thanks very much.  Im sorry my first post on this excellent site had to be negative in tone.
