College/Scholarship Posted by puppetfreak on Apr 26, 2010
Hey it's about that time of my life now that College is looming and staying in my mind!

So first off, are there any scholarships that someone might know about that are puppet related?

And another question is What college did you guys go to or recomend for posible future puppeteer!?

There may be others, but the only college I know of with a puppetry program is West Virginia University. We have one member whose son is a student there. WVU's School of Puppetry is here: http://theatre.wvu.edu/future_students/undergraduate/bfa_puppetry.

Yes, my son graduates from West Virginia University this May with a double major in Puppetry and theatre - he actually got a full ride scholarship based on his puppetry skills. (Mom and Dad were very happy about that!!!) University of Connecticut also has a degree in puppetry. My son has liked WVU because he also got a degree in general theatre which is not the case at U Conn. He feels he is more marketable this way (of course U Conn is quite a bit more expensive also). He has gotten lots of very valuable experience and has a good portfolio now. The professors in the puppetry department are very knowledgeable and have given my son good direction. Good luck in your search!
