Thank you for showing the pictures of the mouth in construction. I am not a particularly imaginative engineer, so it is so helpful to me to see how you make the mouth to open and close.

I'm curious. What do you use for a release agent with the sculpwood epoxy? Or does it just come out easily on it's own?

Beautiful work and some good questions, how flexible is the sculpwood? Coming out of a hard plaster mold, any issues or are you just careful about undercuts? If you want to add further to it after de-mold does the release agent interfere with the adhesion of the next addition?

If the mold is made of urethane or silicone rubber - I use regular agent like Ease ReleaseĀ® 200 http://www.smooth-on.com/Release-Agents-and/c9_1123_1226/index.html but those rubbers are expensive ( for this head it may be about $100 -$150 costs) so I've decided to make the mold of plaster (it's about $10 costs). After the mold was done I've tryed to use Ease Release but it doesn't work ( sculpwood is very sticky material), I've tryed to use vaseline - sculpwood was "slide" into the mold so finally I've used plastic food wrap,it costs me some wrinkles but I can relatively easy get rid of them by using wood filler.
I've started another topic about scorpions marionettes. In this project I use "direct sculpt" method for sculpwood . I hope this topic can also be helpfull.

Thank you! After 10 -15 hours it's still a bit flexible but of course not flexible enought to take it out of plaster mold with undercuts. This head have some undercuts so I've decided not to make a complicated mold like 4 or more parts but make only 2 parts mold and make the "casting"(actually -  "pushing")in 2 steps.First,I pushed sculpwood into nose area, let it dry then I finished all mold so it was possible to take sculpwood out without damage the plaster mold.
As I said above, I didn't use agent but despite of fact that sculpwood is very sticky( be careful and always wear gloves, sculpting tools also very hard to clean) it isn't stick to cured sculpwood some liquid soap can help, it also help to smooth surface. In this project I have only minor changes so I don't need to add more sculpwood ,only some wood filler( I use Elmer's filler, you could see photo of it in scorpions marionettes topic,I'm going to add some pics today)
Actually I do add ears made of sculpwood,as you can see on one of the pictures I added metal wire and drilled some holes around ears area and I've used liquid soap

I love these, very reminiscent of Disney's original drawings from  the 30's or 40's. Classic looks beautifully rendered.

You are exceptionally talented and I really enjoy seeing your step by step process. May I ask where you buy sculpwood epoxy from?
