I think that when taking photos of your work, that zooooom has the right idea.  You have to take a lot of them and then sort through and find the perfect one.  Even the pro's take a ton of shots and then discard the majority of them.

I would say that if you see that you are getting good shots using a certain lighting and set up that you should note that and then use it again.  Remember that contrast is good.  Don't take a picture of your dark puppet against a dark background.

Hi There zooooom, though I was obviously impressed with the quality of the actual work itself, I was particularly impressed with the range of emotion you can achieve given the medium.  I was curious if you sketched out your ideas regarding the puppets appearance beforehand or if you just dove right into the construction. 
Always great to see a fellow Canadian artist churning out the quaility work that they enjoy so much.  I just started up with my hobby site and being an animator, I'm just getting used to working with puppets off the page, so I'll make sure to check back here regularly to see how your projects are progressing.
