Mmm, i couple days ago i stumbled on some 'craft fur' at the back of a crafts store, selling for $1 US for a peice the size of a standard felt square thingy, so i bought quite a few, they only had 2 colors tho, electric blue and a foresty kinda green. When i got home i realized the 'fur' was really quite long and could stand up really well.

Are the colors dark........................ could they be dyed black or brown?

Now quickly to the hair makers!

The hair can be made from different materials (wool, fur, hemp, etc.). The best way to measure the length from the wig on the head and then wraps wool for a book (the wider the book, the longer the hair). The hair on one side cut open with scissors, the same color on a fabric tape laid end to end and close it down with the sewing machine.

All the best .....

Helmut

I found a new method for creating yarn hair without a sewing machine, (i had problems always with that). What i do is wrap the wool around my premade card templates, then i apply hot glue to the top of the edge and cover that with a strand of the same wool, press down firmly to make sure each strand has glue on it and it is all glued to the single strand, then i cut the bottom right across all the strands, and then peel off the glued end and voila! a perfect wad of hair with no fiddly sewing!
If, like me, you make puppets in batches, you can spend a morning using card templates to cover each puppet's head sizes and bag them for later. I have templates for all the size heads i do, plus beards and moustaches too. :0

Hey Billy, i'm not sure if they will take to dye, but it's worth a try. I have some upholstery fringe 'hair' to dye this week so i'll test some then, if what i bought takes then i'll go get some more. You can never have too much puppet hair mediums.
