Does anyone know where to get brushed tricot? Posted by Maya Remblai on May 31, 2010
I'm making a soft puppet, basically a stuffed toy with armature, and I'm nearing the point of constructing the "skin". My favorite fabric to work with is brushed tricot, but the stores around here don't sell it, at least in solid colors. I can get white on eBay usually, but it doesn't take dye well enough to make dark colors myself. eBay is unpredictable as well. So, does anyone know of an online place to buy brushed tricot from, especially in darker colors?

If it helps, brushed tricot is a very thin knit fabric that's usually used for lining in things like jackets and blankets. It doesn't stretch, and is slightly fuzzy on one side, a bit like fleece, but much thinner.

I have not purchased from this one http://www.sewsassy.com/LingerieProducts/Tricot.html

If you need it in bulk this is a good one to try.  I have ordered from them.  http://www.fashionfabricsclub.com/search/search.aspx?source=searchbox&keywords=tricot

Thanks Julie, I'll order a sample from Sew Sassy, they look like the best bet. All the others only offer matte and shiny tricot though, which isn't what I want. Brushed tricot is furry, the others aren't. Shiny tricot might be interesting on fantasy creatures, though...

I'm not sure I know what brushed tricot looks and feels like.  I see that word all the time when I'm ordering fabrics, but have never used it that I know of.  My fabrics of choice are fleece and spandex.  I have boxes of fabrics and furs that I have pickup at resale shops, sales etc.  that I use on custom puppets, so maybe I've used and don't even know it. LOL

Glad I could help.  You can also search on brushed tricot by the yard.  I found several more....some where just interfacing, but there are a lot of companies selling fabric.

No it's not, but they are similar. Robe velour is not as soft generally. Brushed tricot is most similar to fleece in texture, but it's much thinner and it's easier to make small shapes with it. It's the thinnest knit fabric I've worked with, which is why I prefer it over other soft, fuzzy fabrics.
