I am working on a lot of patterns and was thinking I would share one of them with you. I do not have a photo of the finished head but it is a human type head. Please post photos of the puppet if you use it so we can all enjoy. You will have to enlarge it to your liking.

So where is the mouth?   All the darts have me intrigued.

Interesting............................... Could you explain how you designed this pattern? This might help others understand the basics to designing a pattern. Thank you for sharing.

Hi,
The mouth is were ever you would like to open it. So it allows you to have more control of the final design.

On this pattern I designed it in a 3d program called "Z Brush" and then unfolded it in "Pepakura" Which is a paper folding program. From there I tweeked it so its usable. I do patterns the normal way, But this is one of the first ones that I have finished. At this point I have a large collection of 3d heads that I have to refine.

Billy, I wish I could put in words how I do things but as of yet I have not found them. When I am teaching some one how to make puppets or anything else it's more of a let me show you. Then its a Q and A time and then its like this type of thing. I know that may sound strange but.
The best video that helps some of the people I work with that do not under stand what I am teaching is the "Play Soup project series" . David Privett  takes what's in my head and tells it to other people because I can't. And no I did not work with him on the video he just see's things like I do and can get it out in words.

There is no wrong way to make a puppet, Their are just different way to make a puppet.

I don't want to sound like I do not want to share. For me its just putting it in word from my cluttered mind. I will continue to post as I find the words.

You know what they say Mike a picture is worth a thousand words. The pattern is just as I had hoped, I like the flat front of the head ( I in-visioned it to look similar to a Styrofoam head) This would allow you build up facial features by layering different sizes of foam. Great Job! I Love Dave Privetts DVD....... this a bit easier to understand I have to say. Thanks for sharing the pattern and pictures.............. it is a great help.

wow that is so cool, you should post a video tutorial, then people could use your pattern more easily!

also, do you cut two foam pieces and then glue them together? sorry for bombarding you, this just looks so good and i really want to try it.

OOh, I'm liking this head very much, Mike, good job! Did anyone make one yet?
