Re: Lady Gaga and Barrack Obama Posted by Shawn on Jun 14, 2010
Gasket rubber is a bit more durable and even a bit flexible. Another product that many puppet makers use is the board you see temporary real estate signs on. Sorry can't remember the name of it at the moment. For the gasket rubber take a trip to your local hardware stores and see if you can find some. You might even find it in an auto store. The sign board can be found at art stores if you have any in your area. Another option would be leather if you have a leather shop in your area. Sometimes regular hobby stores have leather but it is not always thick enough.

Shawn I think it is called foam core or sign board. Gator board is also a choice.

Well foam core is something you can use and is what I often use. The product I was thinking of here was more of a plastic board. I think the name starts with an "S". It looks kind of like corrugated cardboard with the two thin pieces on the outside and the wavy center.

Yes it is Sintra. I get mine from a sign shop. I prefer the thinner sheets, it holds it's shape but I can also sew right through it with my machine if I need to.
Re: Lady Gaga and Barrack Obama Posted by ariella on Jun 14, 2010
you should make the GaGa puppet and send a photo over to lady gaga herself. she'd probably snatch it right up.
Re: Lady Gaga and Barrack Obama Posted by Shawn on Jun 14, 2010
Yep those are both correct. Coroplast is the stuff I was thinking of used on temp signs. Sintra is also a sign material and I know that folks have mentioned in the past that they like to use that. Thanks guys!
Opps.... should have read the other post before I replied. I didn't see Jomama's reply. I think that is who I heard about Sintra in the first place.

I made the bodies for Gagas! I don't like the first one (too short and lack of shape) The second one is kinda great. I've added arms to it... Now I'm stuck to the hands... How should I make them? Rod hands? Glove hands?

I would make detachable arms with rod hands...................... also make as a second option make glove hands as part of a costume that you could Velcro to the body. This way you could use your puppet both ways.
