refining the gallery feature Posted by ariella on Jun 14, 2010
hey! what did you guys use to build this board? would it be possible to swap out your gallery? its such a great feature, it would be neat to refine it -- maybe make it a little more dynamic, add commenting capabilities, etc.

Shawn will have to answer that one! He has had several different types and this I believe is a combination of two but he can tell you more.

The forum itself is SMF and the gallery is actually Gallery2. Links are on the bottom of each page for SMF and I think there is a link for Gallery2 in the gallery.  Actually Gallery2 has commenting abilities but I did not integrate them.   Any time I tried to do something like that it got lost.  Folks would always just using the forum to comment on things.  You can insert gallery images direct into a post to comment on them.

oh! neat! with html or is there a shortcut?
Re: refining the gallery feature Posted by Shawn on Jun 15, 2010
There is a shortcut button down at the bottom of the post screen.  It is labeled Gallery Image.  If you click on it a window pops up that let's you browse through images in the Gallery. The interface is a bit clunky and some images don't always show up but it works ok.  You use the Subalbums drop down to select the area you want to view then hit the Go button.  By default is inserts a thumbnail linked to the original like below.

I don't mind the interface, bit it would be nice if I could "Like" images by pressing a button, and a tally was kept.  Many times the random viewer has shown me something really great, but I've ended up saying nothing about it.  So here's a minor correction of that:  Hey everybody!  Your puppets are cool!

Thanks so much for the adding-comments-to-photos option. I love nosing in the snaps!
