$$$ How much should I expect to pay for custom costumes? Posted by Russell2005 on Jun 16, 2010
I'm trying to learn to sew my own costumes. But, that is slow going. I need to outsource this to someone else. I'm going by the local fabric stores to solicit some help. I have 8 puppets ranging from 18" tall to 13" with varying body shapes. What should I expect to pay to get this done? I'm hoping like $25 to $30 per puppet. Anyone?

you can try to use some pre-made doll clothes, depending on the size/shape of the puppets

Thanks for the reply. Normally that is what I would do. Or use children's clothes purchased at the local thrift store. But, these are special built rod puppets with particular outfits like baseball uniforms, a mechanics jumpsuit ,coveralls etc. I'll find out shortly what the cost will be. I'll let you guys know what I find out.

I think that's a generous amount, but I guess it depends if you are supplying the fabric, pattern. If they are doing the designing, cutting sewing etc. It also depends on the detail work. Take a look at Sonny's clown....sorry can't find the picture. Can anyone help...Billy? verse a simple t-shirt style. Also, the over all price you are charging your customer.

If you can find a sticher that is intrigued by the idea of building for a puppet you should do pretty good on price per. I think $25.00 - $30.00 should be more then enough if you are supplying the fabric and such.

Have you checked Build a Bear? I find a lot of things I can use there. A costume shop? All the things you mentioned are available there (I added a link for one). One last suggestion - check in the pet department at your local discount store. They have a bunch of things for dogs that can be adapted for puppets.
