Yep I think what you are thinking of is the Veneer Rosie.  Normally it is an iron on product.  You can use your home iron to make it stick to the edge of the wood. In reality it has a kind of glue gun adhesive that is on the back of it and when you heat that up with the iron from the front it sticks to the wood. Use something to protect the surface of your iron though.  A piece of paper or cotton fabric should do the trick.  Normally there is not much glue that well ooze out but just in case you want to protect the iron.

Thanks Shawn... and ND for your encouragement.
Well guess what, I put up 2 shelves all by myself   . I feel like Tom Hanks in Castaway when he said "I have made fire"! lol. I know... it's just simple shelves and brackets but... I'm very happy.
I have a piece left over so I'm gonna make a small bookshelf with it for my dollmaking books, I'll veneer the edge of this and not bother to veneer the big shelves since they are behind curtains so no one can see all the boxes and clutter.

My next project is to re-surface my craft table, just gonna top it with wood and mark an area for a 1" grid and a built in cm and inch markings down the side. I figured I'd also put my website address on it and some other cheerful designs to make it look fun, then I'll varnish it and put a fabric skirt around it.

Your plan for your craft table sounds great.  I can't wait to see the end result!  You well take pictures when you have completed it, right?

Yes, I will, Shawn
I just bought the wood, varnish and the fabric today!
Isn't it great when store's cut to order.... for free, no crash course in using a table saw for me!

Ok, to decorate my craft table I'm thinking about some decoupage. Does anyone know what the medium is that you would use, any tips for this too? Never done this before, thanks.

Homemade Decoupage Paste: Recipe

Handy Recipe Materials:http://tipnut.com/decoupage-paste

3 parts white household glue
1 part warm water
Jar with lid

Directions:

    * Mix glue and water in the jar.
    * When using the decoupage, brush a thin layer of the glue on the front and back of the pictures.
    * For the final top coat, layer 3 to 4 coats of paste. Make sure to dry thoroughly between each application.
    * For glossier finishes, use more coats of paste.

There will be a white film when paste is wet, but will show clear once it’s dried.

Or you can use Modge Podge..a premixed formula
Link no longer available.

I use to always put a final coat of clear cote, varnish, clear glaze, or clear spray paint  to seal it. It being a table you may want to put several layers of varnish on top to serve as protection.

Oooh, thank you Billy! I was hoping for something you could make yourself, finding products here on this island can be quite challenging.... but white glue and warm water I can do, thanks
