Foam Cutter Posted by MsPuppet on Jun 22, 2010
I bought one of the foam cutters Billy had last year. We used it once and it worked great.
Then it stopped. Thought it was the switch, but that was not the problem. My husband has done everything he knows to do (including rebuilding it I think),  and it still won't work.  Anyone have any ideas about how to get it to work? I need it!

I'll contact Cicero about it..................... not sure if you have to replace the wire or not. I'll PM you Cicero email and you can give in more detail the problem.

Thanks. My husband is good with fixing stuff like that,  and he is stumped.

More info on this foam cutter please?

I've been using an exacto knife type thing and it works okay.  I just bought some straight razors to try those but haven't cut any foam with them yet.

I've found cutting foam precisely to be somewhat hard, though it usually hasn't mattered too much (for precision) up to this point.  I know it will in the future though.

I am not sure of the link for the foam cutter but I have another suggestion for you.

An electric knife can work great for cutting foam.  That is what I use.  Precision is really pretty easy with an electric knife.  They are pretty cheap and I do buy the really cheap ones because over time (you'll get at least a year out of them) they do die on you.  Not sure if it is the fact that you are cutting foam with them or if they just wear out because they are used more then just on Thanksgiving day to cut the turkey. BTW... Don't use the same one you use on foam to cut your turkey.

I normally use an electric knife, but this works much better - when it works.

Found this site MsPuppet....................................... this guy gives step by step guide to making your own cutter and the specs as well. I'm not sure I understand it all but maybe your husband will.

I have 2 foam cutters that we have used for styrofoam. One is a hot knife, and one has a stiff wire (straight wire from Hobby Lobby). Has anyone used a hot knife on foam rubber? Think I may try it. It seems to me the wire one (mentioned above that is giving me trouble) may be the best for puppet foam.
Re: Foam Cutter Posted by Shawn on Jun 28, 2010
I think they are pretty much the same thing. The hot knife may not work real well but the wire should be ok. Often such wire cutters can be set at different heat settings.  Does yours have such a setting?  You may have to play with that setting if it does.
