Thats what i was thinking, i thought that maybe 1/2 would be a little thin, but that 1" would just be way to thick. thanks shawn.

If you call and place an order Albany Foam will cut you custom thicknesses of foam.  What ever will meet your need.  That being said I've always used 1/2 inch and found it to be a good thickness.

I think the thickness depends on what you are making and the density of the foam.  I use 1" most of the time. I just cut two heads using 1/2 " and when I glued them and then put fabric on,  it is not dense enough to retain the shape. I have some 1/2" that is denser, so will try that tomorrow.
