3 puppets for 15$ Posted by TheJKSmile on Jun 28, 2010
Okay well here we go. I know what its like to be poor so I always made my own toys as a kid. And since I've been building puppets I thought it would be a great project to put my skills to the test and make some very cheep puppets. I thought at first that this might go with the tutorials but since I have no idea about the end result it will be going here. GOALS!
Since I have 2 brothers I'll be making 3 puppets. For less then 15$.

Limitations
The main limits will be.
I can only use things I find, or get from a junk store or a 99cent store.

And Now I will start.

Right now I have got myself the supplies for the puppets. And I will be starting with a Wtich Doctor

Witch Doctor puppet supplies

Those are pretty easy to explain, Scissors for cutting, foam sheets for mouth and perhaps eyes. Balls for eyes and or nose. and of course fleece for skin

the foam is not always needed. But its good to have. If you can't find an old tossed out couch or love seat you can also call around to junk stores to see if anyone knows anybody thats trying to get rid of one. You can also take foam from a lot of other places. Even a junk yard car seats.

Stuffed animals can also work for a few things. 1 eyes, 2 for the fiber fill if you can't find foam. and 3 they usually have fur or neat designs so those can be used for hair, or neat clothes.

Okay thats all for now
Current money spent = $8.50

good luck! those dollar store toy balls sound like a good idea for eyes and noses

@KnytMuppet Thank you very much,. I hope it proves to be worth the while.

@SunBeatle707 Thank you. I think they will be they are a tad heaver then the Styrofoam balls but they can't be broken. and you can't crush them accidentally knocking them into your hand, or wall, or friends head.

Exactly, u see the puppet in my avatar? his eyes and nose are styrofoam and they have already started chipping and denting and stuff, and i really love the character, so i think i'm going to rebuild him just with different material for the eyes, nose, and the mouth which i made with cardboard which limits his range of expression. Also his arms and hands are slightly deformed...

I have no idea what I will be using as a mouth right now. But probably cardboard with foam rubber.

thats a good idea for this project, nice and cheap, i just like for my puppets to have a wider range of expression
