rod puppets Posted by Jackofspade on Jul 02, 2010
hey guys,
i once saw a youtube video of a guy that made a removable rod for his puppet. i am not talking about arm rods.
it looked like a wooden dowel with a metal hing and a spring on it.
has anyone seen this video before i cant find it.
I like how it was removable. and i would like to try something similar.
Thanks

Not sure I remember seeing that video. Was it a rod puppet, since you say it was not the arm rod? They do sell hinges with removable pins. I've used them on stage setups before.

Ahh... ok now I remember that one. He used the hinge as the mouth mechanism.

I checked out the link, i was trying to figure out just what that plastic tubing was, I checked on the US Plastics website that he had mentioned, is this it? http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=31874&catid=462.
If so, what kind of stuff is that? I have a clear tubing that looks similar, i think it's used here for the bubble in fish tanks if that makes sense, lol.
If it's the same kinda stuff how do you get it to not be flexible? The product sold in the above link can only be bought per 10'.

Is this it then Billy... http://www.usplastic.com/catalog/item.aspx?itemid=37951&catid=440&clickid=searchresults
What do you think to it? It's fairly cheap too, @ 15c per foot = 90c per 6ft.
I like this!

I would say it is that or something very similar Rosie. You did notice the "Sold in 6' sections only" part right? Could be a bit expensive to ship.
Re: rod puppets Posted by Rosie H on Jul 15, 2010
Yes, Shawn, I saw the sizes, i did email them to see what the costing is for bulk, just waiting to hear back. My kid should be in SC, hopefully in a few weeks, but I'm probably NOT gonna ask him to bring that back, lol, more like the fleece I'm looking to buy which shouldn't take up too much room.
