gaffers tape Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Jul 16, 2010
i went by my local Lowes today to pick up some gaffers tape....................... I was surprised, not only did they not stock it but did not know what it was. Can you buy it locally or does it have to be ordered online.

Another question? You know the paper you peel off the back of some types of packing tape, stamps, etc before you use it for whatever purpose. Can you buy just that type paper? I know it is a type waxed non stick paper but don't know if you buy it.

Sometimes Office Depot has gaffers tape, but I found a link that has bunches of gaffers.

If you have a local theatre you could possibly get it from them

It is called wax paper Billy and you get it at the grocery store.   Ok I know you where looking for something else, but would that work. I know you can get the blank "sticker" paper that you use in your computer but I don't know if you can get just the paper.  I know I have seen in the past butchers paper that is waxed on one side but not sure where you get it.

Thanks Shawn................ had thought of waxed paper you use at home but wasn't sure if that would work. The waxed butcher paper would be perfect. I bought a roll of gaffers tape from EBay.............. boy is it expensive.

Yes gaffers tape is expensive pretty much wherever you purchase it.  It is used extensively in theater and is horded by the different departments.  On some shows they even keep it under lock an key.

I know I am late to this conversation but I couldn't resist.  You mentioned my two MUST HAVE materials for all of my crafting/creating needs.  I use FREEZER PAPER which is the waxed butcher type paper you were talking about.  It is not easily found in all grocery stores and I was shocked that I could even find it here in Singapore!  I use it to iron on fabric to be printed on my home computer.  It is amazing and endless what you can print in your printer.  I like to now print of my own fabric that I create from my computer using the illustrator program.  I just draw, print, and sew and such...IT'S AMAZING!

The other thing was gaffer's tape that you were on the hunt for.  Shhhhh don't tell but I would "borrow" it from the theater that I worked at...HA HA HA.  Yes, it IS expensive and hard to find.  I still get mine from theaters locally but I buy them or I have friends in the biz that give it to me as if I were charity...lol.  There are of course the stage suppliers online that carry it.  Glad you were able to get your hands on some.  Like Shawn said, some people lock it up.  My old theater had to do that after so many of us were "borrowing" it. lol  I have to "lock" mine up so to speak away from my five year old son. :P

So.......what are you using these items for, Billy?  Inquiring minds want to know. :D

Nikole

Nikole, could you explain a little further what you are describing here? I think I am very interested, but my brain has been on vacation for a few months, and I'm not quite understanding the process or the intended result.
