Whatup Dudes!?! Posted by TwDogProductions on Jul 16, 2010
Hi Everyone!

My name is Alexis and I'm totally new to puppetsandstuff. I've loved puppets since before I can remember and one day I just decided to try and make my own. I dont have any training or anything like that and I'd really like to put some learning behind my love. I'm in Toronto, Canada. Anyone here know where I might be able to find a few classes or anything along those lines?

Its great to meet you!

Welcome to Puppets and Stuff............... outside of the great wide web. I would look for a local puppetry guild in your area. We have a member Daryl who has blog TV lessons that are free. Click on his blog at the left side of your screen. You can try you tube it is full of free tutorials. We are always here to answer any question you might have.

Welcome! I would second Billy's suggestion to check out Daryl's blog TV videos, there's a wealth of information there. There's also a wealth of knowledge here at P&S, it's a great place to hang out.

Welcome! I love your octopus puppet in your picture! Did you make that? We will be eager to see pictures of your creations!!

Thank you everyone! Yes, I did! Her name is Octania and it was for a puppet show for some children that I was asked to create. The puppets are crude in comparison to the creations here, but it was literally the second batch of puppets I've ever made and I'm really happy with how they turned out.

I can't wait to get better acquainted with the community!

Alexis,
Tell us more about your background.  For instance are you in theater?  Is that what you built Octania for?  Looks like maybe a theater set behind you in the picture.  If it is Two Dog Productions, where is the other dog,  that is if you are one of the dogs?

P.S.  I encourage you to fill out more of your Profile info also.  For example if you set your country location the a flag is displayed in your post. If you have websites or things like YouTube or other accounts you can include them and it makes it easier for folks to connect with you.

Yes Shawn, I am! I've received theatre, voice-over, dance, film, music and various forms of combat training (as well as other things). And I love puppetry so much because it's like a blend of theatre and voice-over training. I've found it beneficial to my other training as well, and I really wished that it was offered as apart of most compulsory acting programs.

Haha, TwDogProductions stands for Twitching Dog Productions. And the twitching dog is actually my little pug Twitch. She's a total maniac, and she's the best dog EVER.

I built Octania for a puppet show that I created for a school. After posting some photo's of my experiments, a friends mother requested that I put a show together and perform it. So, I wrote a 15 minute script, created the puppets and got some friends to play them. As soon as I figure out how to post photo's, I'll have some up. But I'm happy with how they turned out, especially the Bird character 'Sandy O'Dandy'. The kids really liked her.
