fleece/possible selling of a puppet Posted by Cody on Aug 01, 2010
Here I go again with another double question post

haha
question 1: I noticed alot of puppets that look like they have 2 different colors for shading purposes......if you know what I'm talking about can you tell me how its done because I feel like I'm missing some important info on this haha

question two: I am thinking of remaking my cigerette puppet to sell and covering it with antron and lining it on the entire inside re making the mouthplate and eyes and possibly the burning part. The cost of materials would vary from $50-$80 and I am planning on hand sewing everything except the liner and mouth plate so I am looking at around 5-8 hours depending how things go. I was just wondering around where I should price it (if you could please post an answer from the cost of $50 materials and 5 hours work being the lowest and $80 materials and 8 hours of work being the highest ex. "you should sell it somewhere between ___-___)

thanks for the answers you give and/or have already given you guys make it easier and it gives me more motivation

thanks again,

For question one, what kind of puppet are you talking about? It's not clear to me what you mean.

For #2, search the forums for the puppet pricing calculator and previous threads on pricing puppets in general. The calculator will do all the work for you as it's an Excel file.

Sounds like a good idea. Off the top of my head I think of paints and using different hues to create the impression of light/shade/texture. But I don't think that's what you mean somehow....

Here is a link to an eBay jb puppet used in another post recently and the nose area seems to be a different shade than the rest

Here you go Cody..................... This was a price calculation done by Andrew of Puppet Building.com ................... you can use it as a example formula to figure pricing.

Not quite sure I get the first part
Re: fleece/possible selling of a puppet Posted by Na on Aug 01, 2010
Cody, I'd say that JB hand-dyes his antron, like many other puppet makers. This would allow you to customise the shading. Since antron also hides seams very well, it's possible that it's two (or more) pieces of different shaded fleece, sewn together.

I actually recommend visiting Muppet Central. I know JB is a regular there, he may have shared or be willing to share, his tips.
