You know Gimpdiggity's comment makes me think that the way to go with this would be a group of puppeteers that do short segments and then ties those segments together somehow in a format. Might keep the project going longer. If a puppeteer lost interest or was too busy to do a segment then it would not hurt the over all project.

I also know someone on BlogTV who was trying a puppet off type of thing where there was a group of 10 puppets and two would be called out to "compete" by putting together a video based on a certain topic (eg. how to cook a meal).....then people voted on which video they liked best..they made a Youtube site that the competitors would download there video's.....then they would have people thumbs up on which one they liked on Youtube.....so forth until they were narrowed it down to a final winner....well I think two video's got up and people fell through. I was disappointed that is fell through and I loved the concept. I did not at the time was able to participate however I thought it was a neat way to bring a community together and have some fun.
The only thing to consider is that this is a diverse group and you would have to make sure that everyone is okay with the material that will be involved...since some do adult or child content style of puppetry and maybe one would not want to be associated with the other's material.
Just a thought as you go into this idea.
Depending on how my schedule is I maybe able to help you out.

Daryl - Ah yeah, I remember that. Part of the problem I think was lack of communication. I think most of the people involved thought that their introductory video would be the first they'd be judged on.
I also have to agree on the adult vs child content stuff. Even if performers may be okay with a mix, viewers might not be. I'd say that a "PG rated" system would probably work out best in this case. It allows being able to slip in some things for older audiences, but keeps it where younger audiences can still watch.

well the Muppets pulled off a mix of grown ups and kids so why can't we?

I also think it's easier to do short, well-defined "one off" projects than something that is meant to be permanent and ongoing because it's tough to get people to commit over the long term.
I think this point should be considered. I think when starting any new project of any kind it's always best to have realistic expectations, and the expectation to have something ongoing or a whole season of something is maybe too much. I would say, why not try to make a pilot episode, or a teaser of sorts, to start with. Then re-evaluate. That's how I like to approach projects. Make an attainable goal, try for it, and then re-evaluate and decide if it's worth setting another goal.
All that said, I'm interested if something comes of this.
