@Julie about the magnets.

What do you think, would the magnet be strong enough to hold if you secured it under the fabric of the puppet - so it wouldn't show if you didn't want the nose or hair on all the time?
Re: Hello!!!! Posted by Out of the Box Puppets on Aug 18, 2010
I think in that case you'd should just use very strong magnets under the fabrics, not the snaps.  The snap magnets would need the top surface area exposed.  It probably wouldn't matter for hair, but you'd  certainly be able to see it if there was not a nose or ears. http://www.gaussboys.com/ndfeb-magnets/D1203E-N42.html .  This looks like a good site for all types of magnets.  I'm not sure what strength you'd need.

They'd probably need to be pretty thin, so they don't show under the fabric.

I spoke to my mum about this and she said strong magnets are risky as some can interfere with pacemakers. So I'm going to stick with the snap magnets just in case pupils have any reactions to them!

Funny, when you posted that I thought I wonder if that's an urban myth.  I was thinking it must only be really strong magnets, but I googled it and this is what I found. http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/6160731.stm?lspan  I couldn't believe it...lots of articles.  Who knew.

i decided to use my first puppet to create a character instead of a resource as i want to improve my skills before i put my final one up for assessment at college! I havn't thought of a name yet and i really want to make some ears and put a stretch piercing in it! I think it would be cool as i have nothing in my College room but this chap has everyone envious of him! All my friends want one!!

Nice work....love the punk hair as well as the shirt and tie...thanks for sharing.....you came to the right place to get questions answered on your project or to have a brainstorming session.....I love to hear that we are getting teachers who like to/will be using puppets in the school system.....I have had such a positive experience with teaching teachers and students puppet making as well implementation of puppetry into the classroom....it is an art that has become lost in the education system.

Keep at it and it will come together for you in no time.....

Thank you!  I have to wait until Easter to be in a class room again for my final placement! which gives me time to create loads of items which can help with aspects of teaching! I'm also considering writing a dissertation about the use of puppets in classrooms and how they help children with special educational needs! so i'm taking myself to the library over the weekend to do some research! Thank you for your kind words!
