For me just like any form of art that I am working on................ I have to be inspired to do my best work. When I'm forced to do something like make a puppet under stress for what ever reason I am bound to make more mistakes than normal. So there are times that are easier than others. So I try to spend my time working on puppets when my schedule is not so hectic. I really enjoy working on them but technique is a ever learning process every time you start a new project.

The first one I did wasn't very simple...it was a bit frustrating, but fun at the same time.  Kind of like playing golf.

However, after I finished that first one I was able to use what I had learned and was able to improve immensely for my second one.

I have a ton of fun making them, even when things might not be going so great.  for instance, just the other day I kept accidentally cutting too close to a seam on some arms...and having to redo them.  It was driving me nuts, but I couldn't help but just laugh at myself for making such, for lack of a better word, lazy mistakes.

I think you are right Nall, unless you are a genius it can be a challenge when starting out.  Heck I even struggle a bit after not having made anything and getting back into it.  Like with anything practice makes perfect.

I agree with you - I have not made a lot of puppets myself because I am not the best seamstress.  But If I stuck with it I would probably get better. I always felt that it may look simple but there is still a lot of work involved!!

i agree with you all! it is an art form, its alot of fun, and every puppet i make gets alittle bit better in some areas. im always changing the way i do things like doing a different stitch in a certian area, gluing it just alittle differently, changing the materials i make them with but with every change comes a new learning experience. i enjoy making puppets and its going to be a life long art form for me!

There are still things that challenge me and make me think how to figure out the problem. I think if there wasn't it would loose something for me. I like a challenge.

I like to build, but I do not perform. I use to say to my friends that puppet building is the total craft: every material is suitable and sometimes new puppets do are completely different from any previous puppet you have built, improving handles is a challenge... and in my case, there are no deadlines, double fun

I've learned from many great builders, but found a good deal of their methods to be too technical and difficult for someone like me.  So I simplified their ideas and came up with a method which works for me. I believe one needs to do that, .. find what works for you.  But don't lessen the quality of what you are trying to achieve in the end.  Less can be more sometimes  .
