Finished My Little Vampire Character... Posted by Gimpdiggity on Aug 26, 2010
Thought you guys might like to see him.

Vlad is a little vampire with a big heart.  Vlad is a young vampire. He has a problem, though. He's hemophobic. That means he's scared of blood...the sight of it, the thought of it, everything about it just really creeps him out. Because of this, Vlad isn't very accepted by most of his kind. He still likes to dress up like a classical vampire, but he simply can't bring himself to have anything to do with blood.  Because of this, he's had to really alter his diet.  He eats a lot of hamburgers and rare steaks.  He also works out a lot to offset all the calories he's taking in with his diet.  He likes to bicycle and play football.

Speaking of football...Vlad works for ESPN.  He's a cameraman for the night time college football games.  He once tried to work a day game, but even with SPF 90 sunscreen on he still got a bit burned...so he's content to just work the night games.  He loves his job...it's the perfect job for a vampire that loves football!!!

Thanks everyone.

Clothing is handmade.  It's some fabric that looks shiny on the right side.  I basically just cut out the pattern so that the top of the sleeves and the shoulders were already connected then just had to sew the sides and the bottom of the sleeves together to get it finished.

The red/gold stuff is some trim that I found at the fabric store that is just glued in place.

I am going to try to make a cape/cloak for him as well, but will need to get some more of that black fabric first.

The reason I asked about the clothing is that it looks so amazing - it really looks store bought, so for a handmade custom job that's really impressive. (I suck at making clothes)

Thank you very much!!!

I was VERY nervous about doing the clothes.  The stuff I got frayed really easily, and I didn't want to do a double hem because I didn't want it to be too thick with the trim that I had planned.  I ended up using pinking shears to cut the pattern out, then I used some Stop Fray stuff that I found at the fabric store, which ended up being like a really thin glue.  The pinking shears alone made it VERY difficult for me to fray the material.  I really had to pull hard on it to get it to fray.  But once I put the Stop Fray stuff on there it wasn't fraying at all.

I then glued the trim in place (didn't want to sew it on because the thread might have taken away from the look) and that glue added even more strength to the seams that were cut.

After those three things, the fraying is a thing of the past and I was impressed with the way the garment turned out.
