Here's my first character using faux fur.  It took a couple of attempts to get things to work out right, but I got it down.  The first time was a disaster.  The second time turned out pretty well, but as I was putting his head onto his neck I realized that I had completely missed a seam on top of the head that WAS laying together...so I'm assuming I sewed right through the fur but not the actual fabric, so it was holding itself in place until I actually pulled on it.  I was able to fix it with some glue so that it looks good enough to keep in my collection, but I decided to start another one also just to get some more practice.  The third one which is pictured here turned out great!!!

Here's the story for this character:

His name is Yeti, Jr.  Here's what Wikipedia has to say about yetis in general:

"The Yeti or Abominable Snowman is an ape-like cryptid said to inhabit the Himalayan region of Nepal and Tibet. The names Yeti and Meh-Teh are commonly used by the people indigenous to the region, and are part of their history and mythology. Stories of the Yeti first emerged as a facet of Western popular culture in the 19th century.

The scientific community generally regards the Yeti as a legend, given the lack of conclusive evidence, yet it remains one of the most famous creatures of cryptozoology. The Yeti may be considered a sort of parallel to the Bigfoot of North America."

Well, Yeti, Jr might have something to say about that whole "Yeti as a legend" part.  He doesn't take too kindly to people not believing he exists, especially when he's sitting down right now studying for a calculus test.  

You might be wondering, why is YJ not white??  Well, not many people know this, but Yetis are born a darker color, and as they get older their fur starts to turn to the more white like color that most people think of when they think of a Yeti.  Yeti is currently 22 years old, but that's still really young by Yeti standards.  He won't start to turn colors for another three or four years.  

Yeti currently attends Central Michigan University where he is studying for a degree in psychology.  He is in his 3rd year as an exchange student, and he currently heads up the NTSO at Central...that's the Nepal-Tibet Student Organization.  

What do you guys think??

He looks great!  It would be kind of funny if he had a mustache on his upper lip out of a contrasting fur. I really like the shape of his head.

Looks great!  I like the fur, I think I had a small amount of that before.  It makes a great salt & pepper look for a middle age gentleman. I agree with Shawn, I think a mustache would look awesome. Do the eyes blink?

He is fantastic!! Can't wait to see the whole thing!  I love the shape of his face and how his eyes are mounted on top of his head!

Julie, the eyes don't blink.  I thought about trying to add it, but it's a fairly small skull and things are packed in pretty tightly right now, so I didn't think I could achieve it...yet.  Mainly because the eye blink mechanism that I know of is the one where you move what is effectively the lever up and down to get the eyes to blink...I don't know that I would have been able to fit that in there.

I am, however, working on an idea to get a blinking eye mech that is cable operated that would work in this puppet.  But that's for another day when funds aren't quite so lacking...my idea is to attach the cable system directly to the arm rod so that the puppeteer can operate the arm rod and the blinks with the same hand. 

Jeff, Your doing such a great job!  It's great to see how you've jumped right into business.  Keep up the good work.

that sounds like a really good idea, i think the muppets sometimes did something like that too, where the mechanisms were controlled from the outside instead of in.

im alittle late but i think he is awsome! do his eyes blink? it kinda looks like it.
