I'll have to try doll joints. This puppet looks great.

He turned out very well! I like the fleece on his under-arm I think it adds depth to the character as well as being able to see the underside of his hands.

You can find them at Hobby Lobby if you have one in your area.

Julie and Matt carry them if you don't have a Hobby Lobby.

I sell the 35mm and 45mm, but http://www.crscraft.com/products/vProduct1.asp?pid=joint&L1=2&L2=12&L3=0&L4=0&L5=0&V2=1&V3=0&V4=0&T2=Style&T3=&T4=&cat=bear+supplies&sub=Fasteners&class=&searchOffset=x has a great variety of sizes. This company has a lot of very helpful supplies and great customer service.

a couple questions about doll joints, which do you guys prefer, 35mm, or 45mm?
also, does the washer go into the arm, or into the body?
thank you!

It really depends what I'm using them for. I've even used small, 20mm or 22mm for attaching other things; antennae etc. We use 35mm in our puppets that are about the size of the glorified sock puppet pattern from www.projectpuppet.com. We also use them in our Stringbean puppets http://www.outoftheboxpuppets.com/index.php?act=viewProd&productId=4 The puppet is so large that it would be very, very expensive to ship if we shipped it assembled the way you see in the photo. We build the puppet with the doll joints so the customer can snap them together once they receive the puppet. We use 45 mm in my larger puppets. Billy started a thread on using doll joints for other purposed than arms. I have used them for other purposes, but mostly arms and our Stringbean.
This is the way I attach them when using them to attach arms. We hot glue the lock nut (small piece with slits) to one side of the washer. We use hot glue because it only needs to stay attached long enough to snap together. Once you stuff the arm of your puppet you will place the lock nut/washer assembly into opening at the top of the arm. The lock nut should face the stuffing and the washer faces out. Add hot glue to the face of the washer, making sure you don't get glue in the hole. Fold over a small amount of the arm fabric and secure with the hot glue. For the male side of the joint, we cover the head with fabric if the joint will be expose to the puppeteers hand. Poke a hole on the side of the puppets body all they way through the fabric and foam; where you want the arm to be. From inside the puppets body, feed the male side of the joint through the hole. Hold the lock nut/washer that was glued into the arm and firmly snap the assembly onto the male side of the joint.
