First performance Posted by jomama on Oct 01, 2010
I did my first solo performance tonight for a group of 3-15 year old girls. There were about 30 of them and I was nervous about doing my vent character for the first time. Everyone loved Lacy, and the rest of the program. My hubby got it on video and once I review it, I might be brave enough to post for you to see.

Going to be extremely busy for the next week, so it may be a little while before I can post the video.

The first performance is ALWAYS the hardest, but now that you have that under your belt you will be able to continue to improve and get more comfortable.  However, I still have to experience a performance where I am not nervous at all! It goes with the territory!!  I still hate watching myself on video too!!  I tend to see all the things I did wrong and stop there instead of focusing on the things I did right! But we would love to see the video!!

@gompie - the difference in ages didn't matter at all. I tried to interact with the girls as much as possible and personalize the program. They were all so intent on the puppets and what they were saying that I think they forgot they weren't real. My husband said that I had captured their attention right from the start and I must say that they were a great audience. The only adult in the audience was my husband, the other adults were setting things up to serve the "Tea" and there was not one behavior issue. YEA!

@LJ - Yep, the hard part from now will be to actually have a routine with my vent figure to perform. I had a script worked out and when I set Lacy on my stand I saw a piece of lint on her nose that looked like a cookie crumb and my entire script went out the window. I did an impromptu thing about obedience that actually was a better fit for this group of girls than my original script would have been.

I am much more comfortable with improv but I know I need to work on the scripted thing. I don't have a problem with writing the script, just performing the script.

I too tend to focus on what I do wrong rather than right. I need to look at both, keep the good and work on the things that didn't work so well.
