Flip video camera Posted by LJ on Oct 20, 2010
Just wondering if any of you have experience with the little Flip video camera?  I would like to be able to video clips of my shows by myself just so I can put more clips on my youtube page.  Our old camcorder (very old) is not easy to film with or edit with etc etc.  From the reviews I have read on Amazon it seems like it may work for me but I wanted to know if any of you have experience with it and what your recommendations would be.

I had a Flip camera - LOVED it! It was so easy.  Notice I said, "had".  It had a 90 day warranty and lasted about 100 days.   When I began to search the net to find a possible fix, I came across tons of feedback with the same trouble I had - no fix.

But I think they may be better now.  A couple of friends of mine have the new HD ones and they have lasted over a year!

That's really all I know about the quality.  But as far as ease - they are the best and quickest!!! You can record your clip, upload it, fiddle with the editing and have your clip up on YouTube in a short time.

I have a flip video camera, and it SUCKS. (I have no idea what brand, it was a surprise gift... I can try and find it later if you're interested)

It has no way to edit the settings, so if the lighting is too dark or too bright... too bad. It's pretty much if you're 18 and travelling and want to take home videos on the go. If you want something where you can actually sit down in front of a camera and do anything that requires... oh, I don't know... colour balance or light balance, well, you probably should invest in some heavy duty video editing software too.

I actually have a digital still camera which takes film, and I tell you what: it is 100 times better than the flip camera, even if the video is still terrible compared to a proper video camera. For the record, I did side-by-side comparison AND video editing of my flip camera and my digital still filming - even with good software the flip camera sucks.

I was also searching info about this camera, found out that many consider it a "disposable" camera. It is cheap, and it works good for about six-nine months average. After that, you must buy a new one! And it is also very easy to break. You drop it from your hand into the table (1.5 feet) and it breaks. Suggestion, spent some more money, buy a better video camera. After all, theater is your work, you need a GOOD video camera, solid, and that last.

So could anyone suggest a camera that would be suitable for one person to operate and set up while doing a show......... perhaps a camera on a tripod and a auto film button.
