Air compressors Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Oct 25, 2010
I'm sorry to keep asking so many questions................... it seems that I just don't feel comfortable buying things these days with out doing my home work. That includes getting input and approval from my trusted P&S friends. I have been looking to buy a air compressor for my air brush gun for some time but not sure what to get. The prices range from $35.00 up. My only experience working with them were my years with cake decorating. I don't remember the brand name we used but I remember it was a small compressor and very loud.
So here is my question............ What is the difference between a compressor let's say you might buy at Lowes in the hardware department vs one in a craft store( cake deco. type air brushing). I know there is a big difference in size, some have reserve air tanks, some are oil less, etc. I don't want some huge tank that takes up a lot of space, I don't want to have to yell over it, I would like it to be versatile, with out me having to take out a loan to own one. Any suggestions?

I don't think you need the ones you fine in a hardware department. They are normally designed for power tools and the PSI settings are most likely much higher then you need for airbrush work. You would have to check your airbrush manual to see what PSI it wants. A compressor that does allow you to change the PSI would be a good thing. A reserve tank is also nice since it only runs when it needs to refill the tank. Wish I could give you specifics on brands but I don't know them well enough.

OK I decided to buy this one........................... I can use it for my air brush gun as well as small air tools and can pump up my tires. My Central Pneumatic air brush gun requires a 15-50 PSI working pressure. I'm slowly getting ready to open shop.
