MMMMMMMMM.................cotton candy, I am currently going on a mince pie binge I have eaten 12 in the last 8 hours, who ate all the pies I hear people say........turns out its me.

Any way what I wanted to ask was how do you guys make a puppet feminine? I am having trouble with this also when performing with the puppets what sort of female mannerism do you guys use? I have never made a "girl" puppet and I am having trouble with this. The puppet I want as a girl is the one in the first post. I am thinking of calling her Yaz.

Little known fact: It is hard to make female puppets in general especially monster ones....but one thing for monsters you can add larger or longer eye lashes since the other physical features would get lost in the fur/ clothing is another area.  Keep the colours of the puppet more on the common femanine side even a bow or two on top of the head area would also indicate this as well. 

For movement...I would study the female mannerisms to get femanine movements and just duplicate it....go on youtube and study the movements of females talking especially from the waist up since that is the main focus for your puppet....one basic suggestion is make the movement more flowing and gentle....then go from there.

many thanks daryl looks like I am going to be spending alot of time staring at lovely women. I did read somewhere that female puppets are hard to acheive.

ha ha ha, that was pretty much what i was going to say about making a puppet look feminine Daryl, its all about the girlie accessories and alot of puppet flouncing, in the past i have added the little 'shy' mannerism as if the puppet is really girlie and shy and that works quite well, also some times its good for the puppet to do alot of hair touching/brushing with the hands as if she is preening herself, maybe use i little mirror as a prop for her to check how she looks every now and then.
but i would definitely say that big pretty eyes and BIG eyelashes are a must for a female looking puppet, you could always add some sort of hair like piece, maybe like ponytails with the same fur, but as if she has got 'bunches', with some nice ribbons holding them up!!
ill have to rack my brains to see what else i can think of to help you.

I like the idea of pigtails how would you guys go about making them?

Pigtails really should not be that hard to do.  Most likely the most common hair for pigtails and easiest would be if you made the hair out of yarn. There are some old post around about making yarn hair, but basically it is just a multitude of pieces of yarn cut the same lengths that you lay on a piece of fabric then sew with machine down the center of the pieces of yarn. Then you apply that "wig" to the puppet.  You would then take ribbon and tie to big bows on each side of the long strands.  You can use fake fur to make pigtails even.  Let's see if I can explain this.  Cut a circle or oval shape out of the fur that would cover the head of the puppet.  Then cut two very long triangles of fake fur and sew the long edges of the fur to make a tube of sorts.  Attach each of those tubes to the base you created either at each side.  You might want to gather the bottoms of your triangle tubes before you sew them in.  It is called a running stitch and you make really big 1/2 or more stitches in and the fabric with a knot in the tread where you started.  Then you pull the thread tight and it gathers up the fabric. In fact I would gather the fabric that way and then use the thread you just gained to sew it to the base piece of fur.  There would be a lot of variations on this idea so you would just experiment some with it. I hope that gives you the basic concept though.

The Borsa is my favorite pattern.

I have only made one so far, but he is my favorite puppet by far. 

I love the way that it all goes together.  I have plans to make another one, but haven't gotten started yet.

I am going to purchase the Borsa pattern at he beginning of the year. Its great to see one put together that wasn't posted on Project Puppet. It incurages me to do it myself. Nice job. Can't wait to see the final.
