Thanks everyone.
I tweaked the design with the umbrella a bit tonight. It was shifting around a lot as it was being used, so I sewed a small pocket down near the bottom of the back of the puppet, and you can just kind of stuff the end of the umbrella into the pocket. That keeps the end of the umbrella in place right where it's supposed to be, and actually makes the wing movement easier to use.
I've learned quite a bit while making this puppet...if (when) I do another bird with flapping wings, I'll definitely have an easier go of it. I'm thinking about maybe doing an eagle soon...I think an eagle could look REALLY cool...especially because I would probably do it with a golf umbrella, so it would have a HUGE wingspan!!

Oh yah, I also plan on adding feet/claws to him somehow. Haven't really decided how I want to do that yet, but I'll get it done. He also needs a tongue.

Yup, a pterodactyl would be REALLY cool.
So would a gargoyle!!
Maybe I'll do a gargoyle next...but I really want to make the eagle.

Ooo A gargoyle would be a chance for flapping wings and arm rods together. Oh and another good one would be a dragon.

The arms and wings could be really cool. It would definitely be getting a bit more difficult to control as the puppeteer, but nothing that some practice couldn't handle...or two puppeteers.

Looks great.. The wings are killer..
The snapping sound of the beak kinda creeped me out in a good way.. Sounds like when I go with bread to the local duck pond and they start clammoring for the last pieces of bread just before the inevitable duck swarm attack!!! That snap sound...
