Rear Entry: The Improvised Puppet Show Posted by Skelemo on Jan 05, 2011
Hello again!
Just me sharing another project I'm a part of! I feel like a total spammer today, I've already been emailing people and blogs about this all morning. I'm excited about this project, it's hard not to share!
Me and some improvisers in Vancouver BC teamed up to develop a new puppet improv show called Rear Entry: The Improvised Puppet Show. It's debut was Nov 15th 2010, and it was just supposed to be a one off thing, but it had such a great audience reaction that the comedy troupe that let us use the space (The Bobbers: Queer Comedy Improv, which hosts a very popular improv show called Tops & Bottoms in the same space) Decided to produce us and book us as a monthly re-occurring show !
It's different from a lot of puppet improv I've seen lately, primarily because It's a improvised long-form. So instead of a series of short skits, it's a whole hour long improvised show.
It's still in it's development phase. We are working with basically whatever puppets I have kicking around (and a few we found at value village), and still working out the format and kinks of the show. I'm also training three improvisers who have never worked with puppets before, and also teaching myself to improvise AND be a good puppeteer at the same time! JEEZ it's hard!
I've been very clear to mention to everyone that yes it's an ADULT puppet show, but we are all smart enough improvisers to keep it away from just benching on "puppets saying dirty things". We all know telling a good story is the important part.
So much has come out out of the first two shows, and our audience increased by half the second time! The third show is this coming Monday (the 10th)
I've put together a quick and temporary website to share clips/the trailer/photos. Check it out!

What do guys think? Questions? Comments? I'd love to share/discuss the process as we continue to develop the show!
cheers! PS Happy New Year!
