That is really wild! Even after watching the foam being cut, I still can't quite figure out how it works.

Shaun, it presses the foam down, where there is cavity under neath there is less resistance so the foam is able to expand into the cavity and not be sliced off. It "bounces back" and has a greater depth. where th cavity is particularly deep (chin, breasts etc) the pattern foam on top adds extra pressure to be sure it can fully press in to the mould and the cut happens along a distorted gradient of density in the foam which pops back out...

Watching the video just got me thinking could this method be adapted to use with puppetry. like making certain puppet parts.

awesome, it would be so cool if i had one of those machines, it would make creating puppet bodies, arms, legs and hands so much easier and quicker when you have a deadline to finish puppets for customers, oh and for making puppets for ourselves!!! thank you for posting that up, i found it really interesting.

I think I understand.  The thing is when I was watching the video it did not look like the wood template had the cavities in it for things like the breast ect.  I need to go back and watch again closely.

Pause it at 1:32 there is a fairly deep relief in the mold, actually more like a "die" but don't forget there is more pressure applied because the pattern foam is thicker on top in those areas. So the foam there will be denser and basicaly pushed downmore (so cut higher)

@Darryl, :p lol

 Jeezbo, I could imagine doing it with an old laundry mangle with a hot wire  across the exit, nothing is ever that easy though, let me know how you go
