I broke down and decided to use dye. I found the feather trim I needed for hair but it only came in white at the hobby lobby.

So this is looking way better than I expected. Who would have thought that I have never sewn anything in my life before last November.

Wow you dyed the feathers!  That in itself can be an undertaking.   He is turning out really fun.
