New puppet build Posted by Billy D. Fuller on Feb 02, 2011
It has been over a year since I have worked on building any type of puppet. I'm working on a puppet for a client using the Project Puppet simple series pattern. I'll be using the glorified sock puppet pattern along with the simple series alternate body pattern. These patterns are so easy to work with and can be modified pretty easy. If you have any questions I'll try to answer them.

I took the pattern pieces and enlarged them by 120% on to ledger size paper 11" x 17" .....which would give you a half body puppet measuring around 17" to 18 ". I used a common mouth plate fabric lined strap with finger support and a fabric lined thumb tube. I added to this puppet a body tube made of spandex which is glued to the mouth plate allowing a free flowing head. I also used the original body pattern cutting it in half to make the neck sleeve which is attached to the head and spandex body tube.
I also used the same head pattern as the foam head pattern out of 1/2 " foam and used 1" foam for the body. Everything fits snug and comfortable to the hand. Sorry I was going to take some pictures of the mouth plate and the assembly of the puppet but got carried away and had things put together before I realized. I'll remember to do it next time. This puppet is made with polar fleece. I hand stitched the head and machine stitched the body and arms.
I still have some more work to do but wanted to share.

This is a pretty simple build. I will make the features but will not be attaching them on permanently. I'll pin them on for pictures............... the customer wants several different looks using one puppet. They will attach the features.

Hey Billy! I love the head shape. Looks like a good combination of "parts"...lol
I love to mix my patterns with others.
Keep us posted.
