Thought you guys would enjoy a 'before/after' shot of my workshop space during a renovation.

So are you going to get to use any of the "kitchen" cabinets for workshop storage or did the kitchen it self get it's storage moved there. Hopefully you get the built in desk top and black shelves at least. My only thought about the bulkheads still in wood was, "Look at all the lost storage space!" If they had left them open you could have stored plastic tubs up there. Of course you would need a step stool to access them.

Actually despite how it looks there's a lot *more* storage space now. You can't tell from the image much but what you don't see is that this is one 'corner' of three rooms - now two of them is one la-ar-ar-ge room. The other three sides of the (original) workshop room is basically the same and empty walls. The connecting room is the kitchen which is full of cupboards and a brand new island. Despite the size of the combined room, it's actually long and narrow so there's a need to maximise the space. The third room is the laundry and a bathroom.
The kitchen was pretty cramped, with one wall - opposite side of room - with one cupboard. The wall to the right had enough room for the fridge and stove, and the door to the hallway of the house. Along the wall you see in the shot was low cupboards, sink/dishwasher plus windows. That big wooden thing in the right side of the 'before' shot is a dividing bench, which had some drawers. The room my desk area was in is basically an empty space - though it had some furniture in it, like a couch and some bookshelves. Despite everything it really was quite small and the idea with the renovation was to increase storage space, amongst other things.
If you can imagine, the space between where the where I'm standing taking the shot and the green bag is at the most two small steps away. The desk is about 1.5 metres long, and it sits against another one adding say 50cm onto the length... so the width of the room is what, 3 metres at most? It's really quite small once you put stuff in there.
But also you have to remember that this is not my plan, I wasn't involved in the design, it's not my money being spent, and I don't get a say where my stuff goes. So basically the storage space is there, just not for my stuff. - And we really needed it anyway. We always seem to have tupperware overflowing
Theoretically I can or might be able to put desks on the opposite corner of the room. (Not directly opposite as the photo is taken from the doorway leading to my bedroom)
Having said that... I may have another better solution lined up and/or might not be doing much craft for a while longer.

I love it Na! Do you feel comfortable there? I know it sounds stupid but is it a space you'll be contented to work in/feel enthused/inspired etc? It certainly is organised! Nothing like an excuse to have a good old cull!

Haahahaahaha..... OMG ask me that once the builders have left. Seriously, they pulled up the floor for the second time last week after deciding to redo it. That hasn't been finished yet. There's no kitchen sink and we're washing dishes in the bathroom. There's no oven or stove and we're mostly eating take-out or microwaveables. This morning they attached the marble tops to the benches and the house smells of grout. They haven't painted yet. They haven't added splashbacks yet. There's holes in the walls. There's not much done in the laundry. There are no lights installed in any of these renovated rooms.
And to top it off, all of this is being done on the opposite wall to my bedroom, and the only way to access my room is to walk right through the renovations.
To say that I feel enthused or inspired is so very very untrue at this stage
It certainly is organised! Nothing like an excuse to have a good old cull!
Whilst there's still stuff that I shoved into tubs as a temporary measure before actually dealing with it, and there's some stuff to be sold/given away: yes! Before all the craziness started I culled so much stuff. I got rid of about 50-70% of my wardrobe, half of my furniture in my bedroom, put supplies and materials into labelled tubs, had about 4-5 trips to a recycle place with materials and about twice that to a local op-shop. My room's a bit messy right now but in practice it's pretty organised. I've even arranged it so my most common stuff is in tubs set around my room, and my least commonly-used stuff is stacked in tubs in a wardrobe. Everything is much easier to find now, and certainly a lot more portable.
Plus it really gave me an excuse to go "do I *really* need to keep a copy of that essay from high school?"
You think I write a lot here... I recycled probably half a tree just cleaning out old paperwork
It really made me feel a whole lot better to get rid of these things especially as I hadn't done a good decent clean out for about five years.

Just re-did my workspace, and post pics up over on the website. About 80% done with moving everything around. Here's the link: http://tinyurl.com/lfsc2cz and I'm doing a giveaway for the U.S. for the facebook and twitter followers to celebrate. Let me know if you have any questions about anything! (Going to go take a nap, now!)

Very nice work space. I wish I could do a wall like that to hold my threads and tools, sadly the plaster of my walls doesn't hold a bulletin board of a decent weight.
