Re: New puppet project.. Monkey Posted by Steve on Feb 15, 2011
Here's 2 quick pics. Starting to fit some pieces together. Not sure I like the painted foam backs on the eyes I'm going to try some white gasket foam tomorrow. It just comes too far off the head for my taste and the eyebrow (not pictured it's drying from latex/paint) ends up being the same distance off the head and looks a little strange.. but it's before fur so who knows. I think at the least I'll remake the circles or cut off half of their depth to put the eyes a little more flush to the face.
Pinned up the ears to get a look, started on the snout a little test to see if I like that fabrics color which I think/hope will contrast well. Still working on the website but I've been double-posting the pics here and there so I can build some started content / info. All in a days work no? Onto the pics of the night.

The eyes are the post ones right? What if you pushed the post through both pieces of foam all the way to the inside of the head and then put the back on them. This should compress the eye itself down into the foam some. Might look interesting.
Is the nose attached yet? I wonder how it would look further out on the end of the snout? He is really coming together quite nicely!

The nose is attached.. Hard to see in the pics but the snout has a carved out ridge detailing the top. I'll get a better pic of it later.
The eyes I snapped it in with an extra fastener.. It was bad because the flat 1/2" edge bows out.. I could pinch glue the edges to make it more disc-like and will try it tonight.
Neverending!!

Here's a couple new pics from tonight. Nothing is really in finished form other than the ears are done minus any final trimming of hair I won't give the haircut until after head is 100% assembled. Tried some new eye backs out liking them more so far still want to try some other variations.
Toupee of fur on top is just an uncut scrap for the visual, missing the eyebrows, cheeks/backof head/top fur on head all still need to be cutout. Mouth still not finished, but I put a thumb loop inside the mouthplate. Starting to take a little more shape and look like something but a long long road to go
