Great movement! Can't say more than that, completely out of words. Just great!

I agree the movement is very clean and smooth!

Hey thank you all for your encouragement. I'm continuing to put some late nights in the studio. So much so that my big sister has started teasing me saying that the blue fairy is going to come and change Peanut into a real boy! ...and I'm thinking. "He's not real? Then who the heck have I been talking to these past few nights?"

Fantastic Design. Thank you for showing how you did it.

Started working on Dad's truck. This started out as a prop. But, I had the idea to make it into a puppet character that can interact with moving eyes and a bumper that will flex to show emotion happy or sad. Still a lot of work to do on it.

Great looking car! What are you making it out of?  It looks like wood.

Hey Shawn. Thanks. I'm using 2" insulation board I had laying around for the structural base. Probably some sort of papier mache for the curves and contour scuplting. I'll post more pictures when I get further along.

Did a little work on the eye movement for old Betsy. Dad's old truck. I wanted the full range of movement with eyes that open and close. But, I may settle for what I've got for now. Maybe some of you foam puppet gurus can give me some ideas for eyelids that will open and close and look like headlights when closed.

Not sure I'm using the gallery image feature correctly here. There's more video of the movement on my facebook page. I'll keep posting images and such as I progress.

You are using the gallery feature right, it is just that it is not playing well with the new code on the site right now. I have not had the time to dig in and fix it. I manually inserted the larger image for you.

Instead of painting the backs black, I think if you paint them white like head lights it well look ok.

Your other option for this would be to make the eye ball and lid separate. The eyelid would be a shell that comes down over the ball and the ball itself would then be able to look right and left.

The eyeball would be fixed or mounted from the bottom only so the eye lid could work much like your existing eyes do now. So your pivot points for the eyes do not run clear through the ball but is a post sticking up from below that the eye is glued to. then you pivot those two post in tandem to get them to move the yes right and left. Your attachment for the eye lids needs to happen just at the corners of the eyes.  This is a much more complicated mech but since you have lots of room in the car hood it might be worth giving it a try.

Thanks Shawn. I decided to just go with the first version.  I did manage to get the full range of eye movement using a method found in a book I have. But, the eyelids are just too complicated.

I did a little more work on scuplting the truck body. You'd be surprised what you can do with masking tape and newspaper.
