Puppetsmith's Custom Puppet Sketches Posted by puppetfreak on Feb 10, 2011
With only 2 hours left in the day I felt the need to finally hone my drawing skills and sketch a character. Hard stuff unil I figured out what I wanted exacptly. So with no time to lose I was in my "In it to win it" state of mind which as we all know, that's when we're most productive! Here is what I came up with...
BIO: Everyone knows of King Tut, the Pharoh of Egypt. But not everyone remembers Hakanah, his cat. The anciant Egyptians used to believe that cats were mysical and would help keep them safe from evil powers. And Hakanah is no exceptian. Now resurected Hakanah must learn to talk like the "natives" and must learn to trust an entire different species, Americans. This mystical cat is full of suprises and fun for all ages! As a great poet once said, "So first, your memory I'll jog, And say: A CAT IS NOT A DOG." - T.S. Eliot
What's with the quote? Well I'm in a production of CATS and I thought it would be a cool tidbit.

I like him. What type of puppet is he going to be? The choice of body and front legs is a bit different then a normal hand in mouth puppet (if that is what you where planning) and I like that.

A rod arm puppet. The paws in front are just for the picture, so I'm going to try and make his paws move in different directions. I hope to work on the tail so that it stays up without it being stiff.

Very nice sketch....and great info on the history of the cat.

You could sew in a sleeve into the inner tail (or cover thin foam with material on the inside, and roll it up tight).. then make a tiny velcro'd access point where you could slide in a stretch of a-wire for when you want the tail rigid/posable, and then remove it for times when you want it floppy. Just an idea..
Love the sketch can't wait to see the creation!
