Falling Automaton Posted by Abdolos on Feb 15, 2011
I finally got the video done for the Automaton that I built for my parents for Christmas.  Here it is:

Not really a puppet, but pretty much the same skills used in building; It's like the puppet and the stage all in one!

Wow! That is SO COOL!  The movements work great! They seem to be timed just right. I'm curious though...was there something written on the background? I watched it a few times cause I was trying to see if I could read it. Plus the music was cool.

Man that is absolutely incredible! Where did you get the idea of portraying the action of falling?  I am just blown away.  Great job and thank you so much for sharing it with us.

No, there was nothing written on the background.  As for the idea, it came to me when I was making a Sysiphus Automaton for a local art show.  I realized that my expertise would be better suited to building automata that ran marionette-style figures.  Then the "weightlessness" of marionettes occured to me, and I've always wanted to make a scrolling background, so it all came together in this piece.  Another side project that I've wanted to work on is making automata to run the incomplete puppets that I've abandoned through the years, like my original heads with facial animation.  But I don't really like making the gears.  Hmmm...
