Storage Solutions Posted by MaJiC on Mar 10, 2011
As I'm building my puppet empire, I am wondering about storage for puppet building materials as well as the puppets themselves. I know that puppet stands are out there but I just don't have room to display my puppets on stands all over the house/studio. I am quickly running out of space as I started off with a storage problem before even taking on this venture.
I would love to see what other puppet-peeps have done to creatively store their puppets and the materials used to make them. Please post lots of pics!!! Also please share how your storage solutions are working for you.
ONE IDEA -
I have an idea and will post as soon as I do it. I'm purchasing one of those cheap rolling wardrobe bars from Wal-mart (they have a double bar system for more storage @$30) and I have those Zip-Lock Big Bags (the ones you can stuff a small person in). I am also buying pants' hangers (the ones with the spring-loaded clips). I plan to keep each puppet in their own bag with its accessories and hang them from the wardrobe bars with the pant's hanger for now. If the head/body of the puppet is soft I stuff it with supermarket bags (since I can use them fast enough) to keep its shape while stored. I'll let you know how it works out and I'll post a pic.

Have you done a search on this site? There are a couple of storage threads already that have some great tips.

Jeez, now I found it! Thanks! I was using the word "storage" and got nothing but when I put in "storing" stuff came up. Found it here https://mail.google.com/mail/?shva=1#inbox/12ea48c745ab08f5
Many interesting ideas. Love the sewing room.

Yes the secret in searching is in the words you use. The search function on the site is not really that robust. Sometimes you can get results in Google by useing site:puppetsandstuff.com in the text box before the term you are searching for.
Google Search: site:puppetsandstuff.com storage

Thanks. I'm just happy that I found some ideas. I will post my idea above on that thread as soon as I take a photo. I am going to have to be extremely creative in this area so I hope to contribute lots of ideas.

Well, I'm not sure where the other thread is but I'll post an answer here. I use large plastic bins with lids to store my various materials. One for foam, one for fleece, etc. I also have a rolling drawer storage unit that I keep my most commonly used tools in. With my current living arrangements my whole setup has to be relatively easy to set up and tear down so convenient storage is of the utmost importance.
For storing my puppets I built a rack out of PVC that will hold 11 puppets in a space about 3'x 1.5'. Works out fairly well. Anything beyond 11 puppets goes into their own plastic bag and then a large plastic bin.

Okay. I just need to say that much like all the rest of your puppet work your studio is AWESOME Daryl. I bow to the master! I TOTALLY have studio envy! It's probably good that we're separated by so many miles. Otherwise your studio might disappear mysteriously in the night sometime....
